Figure 81: West Africa and the Congo

Demographic evidence suggests that some of the people who lived in these cabins would have come from these two areas--West Africa and the Congo-Angola area.  Though many different ethnic groups came from the Congo-Angola area, they were all Bantu.  That is why the Bantu influence was so strong in South Carolina, and why the people who lived in these cabins could be reasonably sure that some of their ancestors were Bantu.  (Map by Dinah Bervin Kerkseick.)
