Figure 84. Great Da The clue that I found most exciting was Archie Waiters’s expression “Great Da!” He said it whenever he saw something that was out of the ordinary. The word Da came from the Fon people in Dahomey. Da was a god in charge of giving out good fortune and bad fortune. It was dangerous to forget him. So that is probably why he was still remembered at Mars Bluff for so many generations. (Map by Dinah Bervin Kerksieck.) |
