Figure 92. Felling axe The head of this axe was with the old tools stored in the J. Eli Gregg corn barn, so it became part of the hewn timber cabins tool collection when the collection was first assembled. Because this axe head had no handle, a modern axe had to be used in the exhibit for many years to show how an axe looked. Then, about 2000, a new handle was purchased, antiqued slightly, and inserted into the old axe head. The hewn timber cabins tool collection began to use this old axe head with its new handle to show how a felling axe looked. (Photo 2005) |
