Figure 108.  Pintle

This pintle is from the door of Ms. Catherine’s house.  Archie Waiters said that the seam on the bottom of it shows how the blacksmith made it by wrapping a red-hot strip of metal around a pin and hammering it into a solid piece.  Then he again heated the strip that had been made into a solid piece and chiseled the end of it to a point to make a spike that could be driven into a doorframe.  (Photo 1984)
