Archie Waiters said he used a rasp to trim mules’ hooves, but it is really a tool for shaping and smoothing wood. Ruska Gregg used a rasp like this one, only larger, when he made a breadboard. A rasp is like a file but it has separate little cutting points that look like very tiny half-cups with sharp rims. (Photo 1984)
