This singletree, the essential connecting link between the mule and the plow, was donated by Ms. Waiters. It was the one that her husband, Archie Waiters, had used when he was living in the hewn-timber house and sharecropping in the 1930s and 1940s. As an old man, Waiters had looked back on all the kinds of work he had done and named sharecropping as the work he liked best. (Photo 1994)
