Cotton-picking sack To show how they made a cotton sack out of a burlap bag, Ms. Waiters added a strip of material to make a shoulder strap so the bag could be worn hanging from the shoulder. The strap was attached so that one side of the bag was a little wider than the other side. That side hung open, making it easy to drop the cotton into it. The cotton in the sack was emptied regularly onto a burlap sheet spread at the end of the row. (Photo 1994) |
