of canned food
As early as 1940, these jars of preserved food sat on a
shelf in the old dairy in the back yard of the
Gregg/Wallace home. Presumably,
they were preserved by the residents of that house;
however, the people who lived in the hewn-timber houses
were doing similar canning, so the jars were donated to
the hewn-timber cabins collection. While
the
jars have been in the collection since it was first
assembled, they are shown here in four photos with
descriptive names to identify the various jars for
cataloguing purposes. From
left to right, the three pint jars are: Ball Perfect Mason
with old fashioned lid and red rubber gasket, Ball Perfect
Mason with flat top, and Atlas Mason with flat top. (Photo 2005) |
