Ms. Waiters told how she ironed: "Take ashes out the chimney.  Cut oak wood.  Oak fire won't sweat the ironing.  Put iron on heel near open fire.  While using one iron, heat one.”  Archie Waiters pointed out that this was a manufactured iron with a blacksmith-made handle.  (Photo 1998)
