Figure 74: House broom with
special loop Perhaps it was broomstraw from that same gathering that Ms. Pinkney used to make this broom. At first glance, it looks like all the other house brooms that were made at Mars Bluff. Most were wrapped with a narrow strip of old cloth just like this one. But, note, there is a special feature to this strip of old cloth. At the start, it has a carefully stitched loop through which the length of cloth was passed--an exceptionally neat way to make a broom that will stay together. (Photo 1998) |
