Figure 925. Smokehouse hinges These hinges were on J. Eli Gregg smoehouse, ca. 1836, which stood until the 1970s. Note that the hinges are the same thumbnail style as the larger ones that were used on the houses and barns. Also note that the pintles are not the usual type with a spike that is driven into the wall. Here the pintle is attached to a plate that has four holes so that it can be attached to the wall by screws. This type of pintle was suitable only for a lightweight door like the little door on the smokehouse. Photo 1984. |
