Figure 78: Who were their ancestors? The people who lived in these houses had shown such dignity and perseverance while living under the most adverse circumstances.  Surely, they came from fine ancestors and from various ethnic groups, each with a vigorous cultural heritage, but the story of their African ancestors was completely lost.  All we knew for sure was that they came from Africa.  (Map from GoogleEarth.)
