While most of the tools in the hewn-timber cabins collection had been used on the land now occupied by Francis Marion University, this broadaxe blade had to be purchased because none had survived in the Gregg barn though there no doubt were many being used here in the late 1830s when the cabins and the farm buildings were being built.
