Figure 107. Strap and pintle
hinges A pintle is an upright pin on which a hinge hangs. A strap hinge has a loop at the end to fit over the pintle. These cabins and all the barns on this farm had this type of hinge. The blacksmith who made them may have been working on the land that is now the Francis Marion University campus, or he might have been working at the shop that was directly across the road from the present Francis Marion University pond, the site of an early blacksmith shop.
