Figure 150. Poster
showing Rosenwald schoolhouse The Mars Bluff Rosenwald schoolhouse is located about a mile south of Francis Marion University. It was built in 1924, as part of one of the most exciting periods in the history of African-American education, when Julius Rosenwald contributed to the building of over 5,000 schools throughout the South. The two views of the schoolhouse show the long expanses of windows (now covered by tin) that are characteristic of Rosenwald schoolhouses. |
