Figure 190.     Poster: Hewing with an adz

This timber, which has been hewn with a broadax, shows the wavy pattern made by the broadax.  Here, it is being hewn with an adz to make it smooth.  The men who built these cabins used the adz with such skill that it is difficult to find any hewing marks on the timbers.
