Figure 191. Poster: Cornering
At the
time these cabins were being built, hewn-timber cabins
were being built all across the continent with corners
that were saddle-notched or half-dovetailed because the
builders lacked the skill to do full-dovetailing. The full-dovetailing on the
Francis Marion University cabins shows that the African
Americans who built these cabins possessed unusual
woodcraft skills. (Poster by
