Figure 46: Ms. Catherine's Quilt

When Ms. Waiters lived in the hewn-timber houses she made many quilts like this one, and her neighbors would join her to do the quilting.  They used white homespun for backing and got waste cotton from the gin house.  They beat the cotton with a yard broom to fluff it before placing it in the quilt.  (Photo 1994)
