Figure 927. Old dairy
hinge The small strap and pintle hinge on the old dairy door contrasts with the large strap hinge that was seen more commonly. The old dairy was a small two room frame building in the back yard of the J. Eli Gregg home. Its most distinctive feature was that there were deep shelves almost to the ceiling, obviously to hold pans of milk so the cream could rise and be separated from the clabber. In the center of one room was a worn place in the floor, obviously the spot where butter was churned. Photo 1998. |
